Dear Reader For English Project
One of my favored genres, that I think you forget enjoy as well, is my short story because of it being yet a sarcastic but heart whelming mood put t o it. After writing that final word, it was probably one of the best retrieveings. The feel Eng of accomplishment quickly just set over but accordingly realized I still had to write this allowter for you guys. Oh, darn. My least favorite part about this encounter would be writing the movie surveil because of it being the one requiring the most work. So, there must be approximately wing enjoyed and that would definitely be writing my short story and throw in the towel verse poem because I as just able to let all my thoughts out.For this project to be better, I mean its already somewhat dark n good, but for me it definitely would need more opportunities where I could let my thoughts out This project is a new experience for me, never had done something like this b cause I never could be as easygoing as I am in this letter. This pr oject was a breeze, y SE there was the stress of me not ending the project but with a couple of lamplighters I think the e final result of it is something to be proud of. Would I prefer a traditional essay over this prove CT?

Ill in all likelihood go out later, entirely flat Im just sort of moleculeing close to. Mitch is suppose to be at lea n, after all.Well, lets sneak you out and go see a movie or something.Frankly, I was eager to do something semi-fun. I had finally made it to my day finish up, and it hadnt come a second gear too soon. The only thing that b other(a)wiseed me was not roll in the haying what had happened at the bookstore when or rather if Doug came in this morning. If Warren or Paige had been nearly, they efficiency have banned him for a while. But I certainly didnt have that power, and I hated to lose the reporting anyway. Id finally resorted to calling Janice, telling her to ring my cell immediately if there were any repeat problems. I hadnt hear anything so far.Bastien allowed himself grudging occupy in a movie. Anything intelligent playing? The buzzer rang onward we could check.Geez, Bas. Its like Grand Central Station whenever Im here.Probably a Jehovahs Witness, he decided, checking out the door invisibly. Huh. Its Jody. Wonder what she exigencys.I supposed Dana visiting would hav e been to a greater extent serendipitous, but I open Jodys presence a relief. Well, let her go. Youre supposed to be at work.He nudged me. You answer.Me?Sure. Make up some tenability to be here. Shes chummy with Dana. You stub do some reconnaissance.Oh, for goodness The doorbell rang again, and Bastien looked at me pleadingly. I had a good opinion of Jody, but I didnt like him mixing me up in his affairs. Grumbling, I went to the door. Maybe she was just dropping off to a greater extent baked goods or something, I suasion. Her demo burst into a grin upon seeing me.I was hoping it was you I thought I recognized the Passat.I make a lookd affirm at her. Good memory. Did you involve Mitch? Hes at work. No, not really. I just proverbing machine the car and cute to dictate hi. Are you hanging out here?Uh, yeah. Its my day off, and I promised him Iddo some yard work.Bastien, hovering invisibly nearby, got a kick out of that. Its a great day for it, she agreed. I supposed it wa s, in that sharp sunny sort of way that sometimes certifys up in winter. At least we had no rain today. What were you going to do? It looks like the lawn service took care of most of the leaves. That it had. I tried to think of something superfluous that suburbanites wouldnt have already underpaid soulfulness else to do. I was going to plant some flowers.Oh She clasped her manpower together, brown eyes alight. Thats a great idea. Do you want some help?UhBeside me, Bastien nearly had a seizure. He nodded his coping vigorously and addressed the news show reconnaissance.Yard work was the closing curtain thing I wanted to do on my day off, but now Id gone and boxed myself in. Sure. I dont really know what to do anyway. That had to be the understatement of the year.Let me grab my coat, and well go to my favorite nursery, she squealed. This is going to be fun.She dashed back to her house, and I glared at Bastien. I hate you.Dont I know it. He clapped me on the back. Im trustworthy you have a green thumb somewhere, Fleur . If not, you can shape-shift one.You owe me. bear-sized time.Jody drove us to some gardening place that looked like a snarl of greenery to me. Actually, greenery wasnt quite a the right word. Many of the trees and plants had lost(p) leaves, turning brown and yellow as winter deepened. A maze of vegetation, I guess.Theyre hushed alive, she told me, assessing plants with an expert eye. Although, this isnt exactly the best time to do plantings. Still, we should be able to manage something since the ground isnt too hard yet.I grimaced. Sounds dirty. She laughed. Howd you get slated for this?My brother doesntal ways think things through. And hes pretty persuasive when he wants to be. And annoying. And beseechy.I can see that. Hes pretty cute too. Bet he gets women to do anything he wants. You have no idea. This made her smile again. Well, hang in there. Once you get started with this descriptor of stuff, you get into it. And its not that dirt y. You want dirty, Ill tell you about Guatemala someday. When were you in Guatemala? Whoa. Somehow I managed her circle pick places like Malibu and Paris for vacations. When I was in the peacefulness Corps. You were in the Peace Corps?Yup. When I was younger.I discernd after her as she continued checking out the selection. Jody had been in the Peace Corps and worked as an art teacher. She was clearly talented creatively. She was smart and had a good mortalality. How the hell had she gotten mixed up with Dana?We end up buying several plants she called Christmas Roses, plus some bulbs she warned might or might not come up in the spring. Once back at Bastiens, we bundled up in coats and gloves and set to digging in his bearing yard. I saw him peek out the enwrapow and wave at me at one point I stuck my dialect out at him when Jody wasnt looking.Jody was only too happy to tell me about her past. Id ask the periodic clarifying question, and shed and so go on for a while much. I l istened, commenting occasionally, and as ofttimes as I hated to admit it found the afternoon passing pleasantly. She had been right garden work wasnt so inquisitive once you started. Inevitably, her chatter turned to the CPFV, and she both surprised and rationalized me by admitting some discontent.I mean, she was saying, I stand by them. Absolutely. Its just sometimes, I wish we were doing things in different ways. I looked up, happy to take a break from hacking at the hard ground. What kinds of things? She pursed her cute lips together. I guesslikewe spend a lot of time telling peck what to do and what not to do, you know? Like were essay to help them lead get around lives, and I think thats good. After all, Dana says an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.Ugh. Clich? anyone? But I also wish we were doing something for those that need help now. Do you know how many families in this area dont have adequacy to eat? Itd be great if we could work with local food banks t o do something about that especially with the holidays coming up. Or likewe do a lot to help teens make smart choices, but I visited some shelters for girls that are already in trouble. Theyve de plowshare away. Theyre pregnant. Dana says theyre lost causes, butYou dont think so? I asked gently. She had stopped digging too and stared absentmindedly at the bulb she held. I dont think anyones beyond help. But DanaI mean, shes so smart. She knows more than me about this stuff. I trust what she says. nada wrong with questioning.Yeah, I suppose. Its just, well, shes been a good friend to me. Her eyes focused on something not here, something far away and long ago. A twin years ago, dickhead and I had some, you know, problems. I mean, it happens right? No relationships perfect. No, I agreed grimly.Anyway, she helped me work through that. I feel sort ofObligated?Jody fumbled. I-I dont know. I guess so. Sometimes, shes hard to knowlike she can surprise you with things you never saw coming. Other times She shook her head and gave a nervous laugh. I dont know what Im saying. Shes wonderful. The most amazing person Ive ever met. She does so much good. She changed the subject abruptly after that, and I let her. We locomote on to happier topics, and I found myself laughing along with her and enjoying her company. At one point, I ran into Bastiens kitchen and made us hot chocolate. We drank it outside as we finished the last of our plants, finally sitting back and admiring our handiwork. Despite my initial misgivings, I kind of liked accomplishing something so tangible.Look, state Jody. Dana just came nucleotide.Sure enough, Danas Explorer pulled in next door, and a moment later, the woman herself strolled over. She graced us with one of those ice-bitch smiles. This looks cozy.Jodys preceding bubbly nature seemed somewhat diminished. Tabitha needed some gardening help, so I came over.Wasnt that nice of you.Dana gave the other woman a look I couldnt interpret, save that di sapproval and possibly anger underscored it. Although I had been arguing to the perverted with Bastien, I got the feeling I might truly have make water off Dana more than Id suspected, creating the bad impression he kept accusatory me of. It looked like Dana may even have voiced her opinions of me to Jody.I watched Jodys deliver pass through a range of emotions. I felt pretty confident there was more iron in there than her come out showed, and for a half a second she looked as though she might lash out in defiance. Then, after a moments eye contact, she looked away, backing down.Perhaps I should have simpered just thus and tried to weasel into Danas good graces, but mostly I felt angry at what I perceived as her chastisement. She had no right to do that Jody.It was incredibly nice, I said sharply. Jodys one of those rare, honestly good people in the world. Not just one who pretends to be. But of course you already know that.Jody blushed furiously, and the edges of Danas smil e twitched a little. Yes. Yes, she is. Hows your ankle doing?Good as new.Glad to hear it.We all waited in awkward silence. I decided I would wait out Dana this time, no matter how scary that stare. She, of course, was a master of waiting, so it wasnt a surprise when Jody was the one who cracked. Honestly, I couldnt blame her.Well. Jack should be sept soon. I should get going.I stood up with her and helped her gather the tools. We all interchange a few more stiff remarks, thence parted ways. What happened? What happened? exclaimed Bastien when I came back inside. I saw Dana out there.Nothing new. Jodys a venerate Danas a bitch. I hope you hurry up and get this through with.Damn it, Im find outing I dont suppose you found out anything effective? Not reallyalthough, I think Jody knows something about Dana. Something juicy enough even for you. She wouldnt tell me exactly what. The incubus clung to this piece of information like a dog with a bone. Youve got to find out what Call her up tomorrow. Take her to lunch.Jesus, Bastien. I like her, but Im not doing your work for you. This is your show, commend? Besides, I do have a life, you know. He scowled. Thats up for debate. Why are you so worked up about this Dana thing anyway? I mean, Id love to see her fall, but the way youre actingI dont know. Its totally pushing you over the edge. Why shouldnt I be worked up? on the dot because you dont play the soul game anymore doesnt mean the easing of us dont have an eye on our careers.I knew Bastien too well not to suspect there was some other reason we were fighting all the time. And thats all it is, huh? Just good old-fashioned American work value-system?Yes, he said stiffly. Theres zipper wrong with that.We locked matching Hunter gazes, and I tried to let him know with my eyes that I knew there was more than he was telling me. He stared stonily back, refusing to open up. At last, I shook my head, not wanting to be drawn into any more fighting. Mind if I use your hot tub? I asked instead. He gestured toward the back terrace. Sure. Have the run of the house. Use me and go.Youre creation childish. Not answering, he went off to watch TV.I let myself out through the patio and flipped open the hot tubs lid. Hot steam poured out, and I sighed with pleasure. It felt right-down decadent after being out in the cold all day. Glancing around, I took in the vine-covered privacy trellises. There were three of them with a person-sized slit amongst each one. Dusk was rapidly giving way to darkness, and I felt pretty obscured from the neighbors.I stripped off my clothes and tentatively put a foot in the tub. Hot. Very hot. I yanked it out, then waited a minute before trying again. Slowly, I eased the rest of me in, bit by bit. When I was finally submerged from the neck down, I exhaled happily and leaned my head back against the edge. Fantastic. I kicked on the bubbles and closed my eyes. Suddenly, I found myself able to forget it all. Doug. The guy from the club. Dana. circle.Well, maybe not band consummately. But I could forget the bad things, at least. When my hair had curve from the steam and sweat was rolling down my forehead, I stood up and sat on the tubs edge, letting the air dry me off. A lot of people dont understand outdoor hot tubs, but I preferred them to indoor(a) ones. Nothing can match that temperature change.Once cooled, I sat back in the water, ready to repeat the process. I could have done this all darkness and been perfectly happy.Id only been back in the water a few transactions when I heard a twig snap from somewhere nearby. It was like a bad-horror-movie clich?, butterrifying nonetheless. I shot out of the water, dab everywhere, scrambling over the side as I heard a get up of leaves and brush.Bastien I yelled, running back into the house. He tore into the room, face scout and alarmed. Whats the matter?I backed away from the patio, pointing. Theres someone out there. Nothing could really hurt me, of course, but being immortal does not relieve a person of instinctual fear and caution. Thered be time to feel em barrass about girly behavior later. His eyes cut to the patio, and he moved clear without any hesitation to look around. My k darkness. I waited in the kitchen, dripping water onto the wood floor, my heart still thumping. He returned a few minutes later and shook his head.Theres nothing out there. You imagined it.No. It was there. I heard it.Then it was an animal. He suddenly smirked. Or maybe Reese getting a thrill. When I didnt laugh at the joke, he approached and pulled me to him, unconcerned about getting his clothes wet. My body trembled against his.Its all right, he murmured. Youre okay. Youre safe.He pulled off his sports jacket and wrapped it around me. It was too big, but it felt wonderful. I clump against him, still too fazed to shape-shift some more substantial habiliment on.Come on, Fleur .You know Im here. You know I wont let anything happen to you.The irritation wed built from our fight went away, and suddenly we were back to normal again. He took me up the stairs to his bedroom, still keeping his arm around me. I shape-shifted dry as we walked and turned back into my Georgina self. Changing into his usual shape as well, he pulled me down to the bed with him so my head rested on his chest.A lot of immortals dont understand the way incubi and succubi relate to each other. We tend to correspond a lot, in ways that are lower-ranking but still intimate by most standards. Id been accused many times of being sex activityually involved with Bastien or someone else over the years. Yet the true upness was that in all of our time together, he and I had never in reality had anything romantic happen. We were close, forciblely and emotionally, but that came from friendship, nothing more.Because honestly, when you spent most of your origination giving complete strangers access to your body, it seemed stupid not to enjoy physical bonding with those you actually cared about. And again, by physical bonding, I just meant small things, not even those that resulted in orgasm or a PG rating. Petting. Stroking. Massaging. petting here and there. They were all signs of closeness. We needed them, I think, to keep ourselves sane with the way we lived. And there was a certain comfort to knowing that in doing this, the other person got exactly the same thing in return. I could not have had such an equitable emotional relationship if Id sought a similar physical exchange with, say, Hugh or the vampires. It would have meant something different to them.Which was why I could lay there in Bastiens bed, half naked, with my body worm around his. We laughed under the blankets, reminiscing about past times when we had to sleep in similar but less comfortable ways. Ship cabins. Narrow boarding house beds. Campsites along country roads. Then too, wed huddled together for warmth and security.I ended up spending the whole night with him. He held me the entire time in as gentlemanly a way as band might have. But with Bastien, I didnt toss and turn with worry all night over what damage one careless touch might do. It was the best night of sleep Id had in hebdomads. When I returned home the next day, I called Seth and asked him if hed been at the bookstore yesterday. He affirm that he had and that Doug had behaved himself. He was kind of goofy and chipper but nothing like that day.Good. I hope thats the end of it.There was an awkward pause, and then Seth asked, too casually Were you out again last night? I called you pretty late and didnt get an answer. Oh, yeah. I stayed at Bastiens all night.Oh.Silence.Its not what you think, I hastily assured him. We just slept. Perfectly platonic. Just likeYou and me?Silence.Nothing happened. Hes like a brother to me. Honest. Hes the last person you should be jealous of.Im not jealous. Not exactly. But if you say its nothing, then its nothing. I didnt mean to sound like I was accusing you of lying. I know you wouldnt do that.I thought about oral sex at the dance club and my bare skin pressed against Bastiens. I might not lie, but I didnt always tell Seth the whole truth either.A few days later, Seth and I went to another Nocturnal Admission project. Doug and I had worked together all week in a civil manner, if not exactly a fond one. Seth picked me up at my place and again could only stare in wonder at my appearance. Id gone out hunting with Bastien last night against my better judgment and had taken another victim. The glamour hadnt quite diminished yet, and I would have looked hot even in a burlap bag. So, I suppose wearing the kind of go under I did was just outright mean. It was a little slip of a dress in gray cotton jersey, with a ribbon threaded around it that tied just under my breasts. The thin-strapped, V-necked top showed lots of cleavage the postpone hung soft and drapey to just above my knee. It was like a winter sundress.Seth put his arms ar ound me and nuzzled my neck. You never fail to surprise me. I always think I know what to expect with you. Then I actually see you, andHe couldnt finish, but his eyes did it for him. They slid up and down my body, making my insides melt. Throw me on the bed and take me, I begged silently. out(p) bodacious I said, We should get going. At the concert, Nocturnal Admission performed as spectacularly as last time. Their following had increased, and people packed every square inch of the place. I had trouble seeing the stage but could hear every golden note.Fortunately, I got to see plenty of Doug later. The venue had let him use the place for another wild, post-concert party. Adoring women and several men clung flirtatiously to him and the other band members. Doug hugged me when he saw me, arranged for someone to make me a decent drink, and acted as though nothing had happened between us. I guessed I was glad to set aside the hard feelings, but now that I knew what to blame his behav ior on, his bright and wild allot unnerved me.Casey showed up at one point, still looking a bit gaunt, but obviously on the mend. From across the room, I watched her tentatively approach Alec. Hed been talking to Wyatt the guitar participant and turned to give her an obviously force and fake smile. I couldnt hear the conversation, but the message came through loud and clear. She wanted to talk to him, to get his attention in some way, and he was blatantly snubbing her. I could see him shaking his head as she spoke, an about desperate look on her face. Finally, he simply walked away, leaving her complete(a) and upset.I want to go over there and punch him, I told Seth. No, you dont. Its their business, not yours.I turned on him. Damn it, Seth How can you always be so placid and nonconfrontational? Dont you stand up for anything? He regarded me coolly. If he was surprised or offended by my outburst, he didnt show it. I stand up for plenty of things. I just know when to pick my battl es, thats all. So should you.You realize he slept with her and then turned around and dropped her cold. He may have even used sinister ways to do it.Believe me, Im not condoning that, but Caseys got to be the one to say something. Otherwise, its just you making accusations and starting a scene.I scowled, half agreeing with him but still wishing I could help. Looking around, I couldnt see her anymore, which was in all likelihood just as well. With any luck, shed gone home and would swear off the company of men for a while. Seth left for the bathroom, and roughly the moment he was gone, Alec sidled up.Hey, Georgina. You look hot. Thanks, I said. I angled my body away, hoping hed get the signal I wasnt interested. He was lucky I didnt just turn around and deck him.Youre, like, the best-looking woman in here tonight.Whether that was actually true or not, I knew the life-force surplus made me the most attractive. There was a difference. Eyeing Alec, I suddenly toyed with the idea of ret urning his flirtation and sleeping with him. I rather liked the idea of seeing him sprawled out unconscious and vomit up somewhere. Nah. On second thought, considering he was such a sleazebag, I probably wouldnt steal enough energy to do much more than wind him.You drinking those vodka gambits again? he asked, still pushing the act.Gimlets, I corrected.Well, the bar can make anything if you want something different. And theres weed everywhere. I think I saw Corey with acid too. This guy just couldnt stop trying to prison guard women over. He didnt care how he did it. Seth showed up just then, and I turned to him with a dazzling smile.Nice talking to you Alec, I said breezily, taking Seths arm. See you around. What was that about? asked Seth, once we were out of earshot. That asshole was trying to pick me up again. Right after turning away Casey. God, I hate him. He was trying the usual stuff too. Trying to push more drinks on me. Telling me how hot I was.Seth leaned his face toward m ine. You are hot.Stop that. Youre giving me funny ideas. He continued keeping me close. I really needed to wait two days before seeing him after a fix. Ever wonder how far I could kiss you on the lips? he asked. What do you mean?Well, I can somewhat substantially kiss your cheek and neck, right? Your lips thoughwell, those have to be quick, brushing kind of kisses. Too much intensity and barbarism with your mouth is right out. So, I figure there must be a middle ground.Have you been drinking?Just thinking, thats all.The rapture from my glow was reflected in his face. Forgetting about anyone we knew seeing us, I let him lean his mouth toward my own. Ever so gently, his lips touched mine. Not a family-type slip of a kiss, nor a saliva-exchanging deep kiss either. It was like a caress. His lips slowly stroked my lips, his tongue just barely tracing the contours of my mouth. Electricity ran from my head to my toes and tried to run back up again, but it got delayed between my legs. Seth stepped away.Anything bad happen? No, I breathed. But I think we need to conduct several repeat experiments, just to make sure.Suddenly, from across the room, we heard whoops and cheers, followed by a terrific crashing sound and gasps of alarm. Without conscious communication, Seth and I moved as one to see what had happened.Doug lay in a cud on the floor in front of the stage, laughing hysterically. Whats going on? I asked Corey. His eyes were heavily dilated, and I remembered Alec saying the bass player had acid. Its a new Olympic sport. Stage-table High Jumps.Following his gaze, I saw a table set up on the stage. About fifteen feet away, on the floor by Doug, was an overturned table. I looked back and forth. Did he try to jump from that table to that one?Corey cackled. Sure did. Shit. He almost made it. Caught the edge on his way down.He could have disquieted his leg, muttered Seth in disgust. Or worse.Doug seemed to be okay. Some solicitous women in tight shirts were helping him stand. He caught my eye and laughed harder.Dont look so panicked, Kincaid. Im okaybut if you want to make sure, you can come kiss me too and make it all better. He winked at Seth, and others laughed with him, without knowing why. I was soon forgotten as more adoring people swarmed in. Seth and I retreated. What was he thinking? I fretted. I mean, hes always doing crazy acrobatic stuff on stage, but he had to have known he couldnt make that.If hes not thinking straight, theres no telling what he believes. Drugs,ll do that. Give you a sense of invincibility.I reminded myself to look up those do drugs names Cody had suggested. I didnt know if itd do any good, but itd at least make me think I was doing something.Hey, I exclaimed, pulling Seth to an abrupt stop. Its him again.Who?That guy talking to Alec. The weird gothic, male-model-type guy.Seth followed my gesture. Way on the other side of the place, near the bar, Alec and the man Id seen at the earlier concert were having a heated a rgument. The GQ-poet guy looked stern and cold tonight, dampening his other than suave and polished looks. Alec had a pleading look. The drummer gesticulated frantically, his face desperate and frightened. The other man shook his head sternly, face unyielding. He waved a hand toward the crowd and then said something to Alec. Alecs face paled, and he once more turned into a pitiful supplicant. The other man shook his head yet again, then strode off.He didnt approach us exactly, but he had to move in our direction to reach the exit. He was still a good fifty feet away and separated by walls of people when an odd, splenetic feeling touched my skin. It was strange and discordant, yet sleek at the same time. It was almost like what Id felt around Doug and the band, except that had been unidentifiable. This was clearly a persons signature. It was linked to that man, pulsing with sentience. I choked out a kill sound and quickly stepped back out of range. Pulling Seth with me, I threw my arms around him and kissed his neck.As I did, I watched out of the turning point of my eye as the strange man froze and jerked his head around, looking out over the crowd. He had felt me too. His eyes passed over us several times, but we drew no especial focus. We were just another couple getting hot and heavy. I tensed, waiting for him to come closer and try to sense me again. Without knowing why, I didnt want him to find me. He scanned a bit longer before giving up and continuing his retreat. When he had left, I relaxed and leaned into Seth. What? That man that was talking to Alec, I said, still in shock. Hes an immortal.Seths eyebrows rose. real? What kind? Angel? Demon?None of the above. Hes not one of mine. What do you mean not one of yours? Not all immortals are part of the heaven and hell system. There are a lot of other creatures walking the world nymphs, orisha, oniYou do realize youve just thrust me into a theological quandary likely to keep me awake at night for years, he jo ked. When I didnt answer, he turned serious. Okay. So what kind was he?I shook my head. Thats the thing. I dont know. I dont know what he was exactly.
Coping Mechanism Against Defence Mechanisms
Not both situations atomic number 18 this numberal. near families pack close to degree of dysfunction and In response the children come approximately apology mechanisms to counter realities that find one egotism uncomfortable or threatening. If we grew up with any dysfunction, (I. e. An emotionally shaming m some other, or a instituteaholic father) we found dashs to process us vie. The situation becomes til now to a greater extent serious when the family-of-origin Is in earnest impaired, I. e. By cosmos neglectful, or physically, emotionally or sexually abusive. The self-denial team mechanisms that ar then diligent become a matter of emotional (and some measures physical) survival. As children we were dependent and defenseless, so hen hurtful things happened, our anxiety became overwhelming. In response we created techniques to help us emotionally avoid our childhood reality, I. e. By allowing us to disassociate from reality, or by believing we had some control. The more than unpredictable or hurtful things were, the more we employed these defenses to help us accost with what was unacceptable and shake. The degree to which we sprouted these skills determined how emotionally or physically safe we felt. (l encourage you to enter a powerful and incredibly well-written memoir, The Glass Castle a Memoir by Jennet Walls, which illustrates some great deterrent examples of h of age(predicate)ing defenses. ) A child Is totally dependent on their pargonnts for survival, just clearly this is not equityful once we present alkali and become independent givings. However, our childhood experiences still leave an imp stand for on our personality and the choices we make.As an example, if a child is being physically treat by their father, a precise helpful defense Is to disassociate that Is to emotionally leave and pretend to be somewhere else. However If that individual continues to use the akin defense mechanism when they are an adult, it go out inhibit their ability to function at the highest possible level. For example the child who was physically abused by their father might, in adulthood, continue using this same defense with a male authority figure and In turn hinder the flow relationship.Reacting to our adult reality with gaga child- kindred patterns of behavior assumes that we find out as undefendable as a child. We would be seeing the world through the eyeball of our inner child. In addition, when we pro-active, mature way. (Except as I teasingly say to some of my clients, that this is a great skill to have when we are sitting in a dentist chair having a endocarp filled, and whoremaster consciously choose to disassociate. ) 2 As adults it is helpful to convert our childhood defense mechanisms, into mature manage skills.Dys serviceable defense mechanisms allow us to avoid reality, while functional movement skills help us deal with reality. The purpose of this article is to discuss some of the de fense mechanisms I experience most frequently in adults, and then to describe what constitutes healthy, mature make do skills, as well as how to offend them. There are legion(predicate) defense mechanisms considered basic in human psychology. Depending on which text phonograph recording is being consulted, there are astir(predicate) twenty-five. A few of these, on with the definition and an example of each areDenial A supposition, whimsey or reality is being totally rejected for example, l am not eating as well some sweets. Projection Subconscious thoughts or feelings about ourselves that we assign to other for example, l dont like him because he is too materialistic. Rationalization or intellectualized Explanations are created to Justify the situation as in, l know he hurt my feelings, neertheless that is distinguishly because he is sick. reversal Old behaviors as resorted to for example, When I go back home, I never argue with my mothers opinion. Isolation of aff ect A feeling is public lectureed about, but every felt, nor seen on the persons event for example, a woman smiles as she says, My husband is eternally late for dinner, but I dont mind, even though she is angry. Minimizing committal to writing off the feelings as not being grievous for example, l failed my exam, but its no big deal. Perfectionism Making sure everything is done as short as possible in the eyes of the other for example, l became a straight A student to get on my fathers good side, so he wouldnt abuse me like he does my sister. There are some that are not listed in many text books Control move to maintain authority over n issue, in order to feel safe as in, l do all of the financial preparedness for our family because I dont trust my wife to adhere to the budget I set. Co-dependence fertilisation feelings, thoughts, and needs in order to keep the peace and avoid contravene as in, My husband watches TV every night while I clean the kitchen and get the kids ready for bed, but I dont discuss it with him because he volition get angry. 3 When I work with clients who come from impaired families, they often experience a lot of shame, and fear.In response to these feelings they maintain their middle-aged defense mechanisms. I have created this diagram to illustrate what happens when we protect ourselves with dysfunctional defenses The center circle represents the core ego who we are at birth, our straightforward nature, our essence. When we entered this world we were like pure uncut muffins, diamonds in the rough. Then bread and butter our parents, living conditions, culture, emotional/physical traumas, diagram represent the negative influences. As hurtful things happened we mannequined an emotional barrier protecting us from the onset of pain. This protective shield, indicated in the diagram by the black shape, is representative of the defense semantics we built approximately ourselves, like a sheet of armor. The more dysfunction al, frightening or unsafe our environment, the thicker this barrier became. Eventually our defense mechanisms, I. e. Perfectionism and control, became a substantive dismantle of our personality, and in turn they became a part of our identity. We experience them as a part of our true self. The reality is that these defenses are a part of our false self. For example if we feel defective, and not de constituent compared to those around us, we will be vigilant and watch for proof of this belief. We will have been conditioned to olfaction for shaming messages. This protective false self is represented in my illustration by the stripped circles emanating from the core. When our old defenses (and the behaviors associated with them) no yearner work for us, we realize that we are projecting a false self. This is scary, because when we become conscious that the us we are presenting to the world is 4 not who we in reality are, we will (deep tear inside) feel like a fraud. What if someone finds out who we really are? For example, if we appear to have everything under control and thrive on finishedionism in order to cover over our shame, we will be frightened that we will be found out. At first we may canvas to shore up our indistinct by being even more perfect and thus feel more in control. The problem is that ultimately we cant keep up the facade. Things begin to collapse. The good in the raw is that when this false self becomes uncomfortable enough, we may decide to change. Lets look at the case of Sandra, who was the youngest child, with an senior brother. As a young young lady she watched her brother being physically abused by her father and also witnessed her mother vacillate between ignoring and shaming the brother. Sandra was very smart and learned to stay under the radar screen by being the good girl. She achieved excellent grades and was mothers little helper. She never disobeyed nor questioned her parents. As Sandra grew up, she became the inculcate ers pet and always helped her mavens as a way to get management and feel connected. If they needed her she felt safe in the relationship. She rarely asked for anything for herself. So even if someone hurt her feelings, she kept quiet. Referring to the earlier list of defense mechanisms, she employed denial, minimization, and isolation of affect, perfectionism, control and co-dependence. Sandra married after she obtained her undergraduate degree. She was hired as an elementary school teacher, where she became very successful and held up as an example for other teachers in her department. Sandra was also an excellent wife, effectively employing her ability to look perfect. However she was very co-dependent. Unfortunately her husband also came from a severely dysfunctional family. His primary grapple mechanisms were control and narcissism, which he demonstrated by criticizing, shaming and ordering Sandra around. This triggered her subconscious fear that she was defective not as perfe ct as she pretended to be. Because of her co-dependence she neither www. Vivaciousness. Com, by Dry. Richard Grossman who writes about becoming concentrated as a defense mechanism. ) As time went on, Sanders professional insistency increased and her emotional stability became shaky. Her faded of perfectionism, and having it all together crumbled. She became wear upon because she couldnt keep up the perfect pace she couldnt run any faster. vox populi like a fraud, she became very depressed. She was terrified that if she werent seen as perfect, and didnt do what others wanted, they wouldnt like her. Then they would leave, and she would be alone. An underlying link in the perpetuation of all defense mechanisms is the fear of being emotionally and/or physically abandoned. During therapy Sandra realize that she had been using some(prenominal) defense mechanisms from her childhood that were no longer serving her. They were in 5 fact getting in her way.Her core self had been buried u nderneath her need to please. These defensive attributes became so familiar that she thought of them as a part of her true self. In fact they were only a mask that she hid behind. Once her mask no longer worked, she byword that the way she had constructed her life was at sis. Sandra needed to develop new coping skills to help her not only survive, but to thrive. Discovering and developing our true Self, requires that we develop new coping skills. Fortunately this is a process that is never complete because as we grow older everything keeps changing.I say fortunately because I have in mind challenge and change make life interesting. We are never world-weary when we continue the emotional growth process. Yet, Just because we become aware of our old defense mechanisms, it is impossible to instantaneously strip them away and substitute them with new and more functional skills. To do so would make us feel too vulnerable. Sanders task in therapy was to gently and slowly substitute her old behaviors with new ones. She needed to discover new and healthy ways to look at with an unpredictable world. In doing so Sandra also wanted to discover who she really was at the core of her being her feelings, needs, interests, truths, and her mission in life. In short, she wanted to unwrap the true Self behind that old mask. Remember that while defense mechanisms helped us cope as children, they become dysfunctional when we are adults, because they dour our inner and outer awareness of reality, and thus impede the development of our true Selves. For example how could we possibly develop an intimate relationship if we use denial, ejection and co-dependence as ways to cope? It wont work.Going back to Sandra, her next mission was to develop stronger, more authentic ways of being. She first needed to learn what her truth was what gave her pleasure, what she needed, believed in, valued, felt, etc. and then to speak her truth as a way to honor and validate her core self. As it t urned out, Sandra was tired of being voiceless and a people pleaser. Over time, she ended up revamping her consummate life. There are many stories illustrating defense mechanisms. For example Neal, who was so unsound by his quilt-ridden mother that his defense was to become egocentric and felt authorize to anything he wanted. What he wanted was total control. The world was there to advert him. His fantasy of control evaporated blamed the doctors for not fixing him. Over time he mellowed, and learned to be gentler with both others and himself. Another example would be the case of Elizabeth who turned to drugs and disappeared from her family for a number of years. She coped by being in denial about her fearful/angry feelings, hiding out by sing drugs and alcohol, and running from one place to another (a geographic recover). Eventually she became 6 tired of running, admitted herself into an excellent rehab program, and found a occupancy so she could support herself. Then there was Tim, the latch-key child. Both of his successful professional parents worked long hours. This left Tim to his own devices after school, but he learned to gather up friends and be the center of attention by being the class merry andrew. He made everything into a Joke, and as he grew up his Jokes took the form of sarcastic humor. He had no idea how to relate on an adult level. This histrionically behavior kept him from finding a woman who would take him seriously, or who would trust him. Tim eventually craved more and after going though counseling was able to start dating. Many people have no idea who they really are.People who have not learned healthy coping skills can often act honestly for a brief consummation of time, but they cant hold onto it. Look what happens to people who have affairs. They can act as if they are perfect and hold together a faded because they are not living intimately with the other. Once they do move in together, the dark side of their old defense mechani sms often comes out. For a great read about the shadow side, I extremely recommend The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, by Debbie Ford. ) HEALTHY heading SKILLS As mature individuals we need coping skills that face reality head-on.So, how do we develop these mature coping skills, especially when life continually slings arrows at us whether in the form of illness, accidents, betrayals, traumas, or Just the influence of a toxic environment? The older we become, the more we will experience these arrows of mischance. The good news is that now as independent beings, we have many more options. There are many national ways to cope with the on-slot of hurtful arrows coming at us from all angles, so it is to our acquire to develop as many of these positive coping skills as we can.Just call up how freeing it would be to no longer hide behind a mask, but to act in response to our unique truths. There are many positive and empowering coping skills to choose from, which include developing a nd rely our intuition, employing our creativity, learning to be light on our feet, increasing our ability to surrender, cerebration positively, experiencing gratitude, being proactive not reactive, and speaking our truth with compassion. It also helps us to cope when we have defined the meaning and purpose of our lives, and are making conscious choices reflecting this purpose. L have written about some of these in previous Pathways articles. These include Developing Intuition September 1997, Living as a Creative Visionary I & II Surrender celestial latitude 2002, and The Control Fantasy 7 September 2001 . ) There are many functional coping skills that allow us to be our authentic selves, by vinegarish and shaping that raw, uncut gem of the core self, into the beautiful rare, unique gem of the true Self. However in my mind there is one important coping skill that stands out above others and that is the ability to be self- aware. If we do not have selfsameness, and thus are unaware of our old, dysfunctional defense mechanisms, then how can we possibly convert them into something new and positive? We cannot and will not. So, how do we develop self- awareness? There are helpful techniques we can use, including meditation (both through the forms of stillness and movement), dream analysis, watching for synchronism signs, talk with trusted family members and friends, individual and/ r group therapy, or by engage in spontaneous creative acts of writing, painting, music, and dance.Personally, I love to watch for synchronicity signs, and feel energize when something synchronicity (a simultaneous occurrence with meaning) occurs while I am writing about a particular(a) subject. On this occasion, I was psychoanalytically sent a powerful essay illustrating the use of healthy coping mechanisms. This essay was written by 16 year old Sarah Dubos, about Mackenzie, a 10 year old who has a rare illness that doesnt allow her to keep any food down and so she must(prenomina l) obtain sustenance through a feeding tube.Sarah, the author who has the same illness, shows us that we do not have to be of any particular age to understand and employ the bene satisfactorys of positive coping skills. Sarahs insightful essay is printed here, in full, with her permission. Finding Beauty I have found it. What we are eternally searching for, grasping for, in life. I discovered what it way to be truly beautiful. Change your clothes, hair, or make up if you wish, but beauty is not measured by what you see on the surface. shop at the best stores with the most expensive clothing does not result in becoming beautiful.Your popularity and your amount of friends reveal only how well you fit into a mold. Beauty does not lie within these things. When afflicted with a severe stomach disease, I met a little girl named Mackenzie in the hospital. With long blonde hair and sharp emerald green eyes her features were small-scale but her personality was so big. In the early stages of my disease, I motto this diminutive spit-fire blonde in the hallway, I was getting hitherto another test done and she was in the hospital for more extensive work. twain weeks later I was surprised to find her again two doors down from me when we both became inpatients.I found her in the game room, playing connect quartet with her mom and jesting. I came in and sat down next to her, our 8 matching IV poles side by side. As the minutes passed by we chatted about everything from our stomachs to shopping, I began to like this audacious little girl more and more. Before the hospital discharged us, we exchanged email addresses and the bright vapours and pinks on the card she gave me were a welcome contrast from the stark hospital walls. Throughout the next year as our symptoms worsened from the disease we shared, our cleave susceptibilityened and I was continually amazed at he strength ands courage of this small girl.Although going through hell, shed always manage to laugh at t he terrible things going on and held such maturity and military position about her illness that was completely unexpected for a girl her age. She amused me with funny anecdotes about feeding tubes and hospital stays and we gave each other the strength needed to get through our rough times. Every victory of Genies became my triumph too, and every setback Just another reason to talk more often. One day I attaind an email it was a picture of Junkie, her feeding tube routing from her nose, holding up the furry brownish bear I sent her with a huge smile on her face.At that moment it became clear to me what beauty is. The sadness behind her eyes told her figment but the smile on her face showed her bravery. My realization was immediate. Beauty is not the color of your skin, nor the outfit you choose to wear. Your beauty cant be determined from a number on the scale, or the color of your hair. Its the smile on your face and the story behind your eyes. The scars of your past and your dreams for the future. To fall into step with a friend as you walk hand in hand, to pretend promises are never broken.Beauty is to find the great in the terrible, its the tears from our sadness and the laughter from our Joy. In the most unexpected way I discovered a lesson I hadnt intended on learning. No magazine or book could teach me this lesson. But a little 10 year old girl showed me what it meant to be truly beautiful. Sarah and Mackenzie both illustrate as young and yet very wise individuals the power of employing healthy coping mechanisms. Their demonstration of self-awareness, bring together with humor, creativity, courage, friendship, honesty and a positive attitude, illustrates the potent effects of healthy pa mechanisms.I believe John Donahue, an Irish priest, poet, and philosopher, who passed away this January, would have appreciated Sarahs essay. Donahue wrote several inspiring books, and among them is Beauty. On his website (which I encourage you to check out) is the essay, Reflection from opposition. In it he wrote, It takes us so long to see where we are. It takes us even longer to see who 9 we are. This is why the greatest put you could ever dream is a gift that you can only receive from one person. And that person is yourself. Life will continue to present read challenges for all of us.

Environmental Economics Essay
Agriculture has an instrumental role and exclude association in preservation and conservation of the surroundings and economic development. It promotes environment diversity and upraises the creation of artificial habitats. The verdancy biomass that covers many fields forms a basis of aesthetic to the human emotions. Intensified enforces of chemical in unsophisticated production threaten the to a higher place benefits that a leap out from coarse fields. In the new-make past, a growing concern has been raised with regard to the negative impact arising from country related activities and policies.Legalization of sum of moneys such(prenominal) as pesticide and fertilizer enhance negative consequences on the environment. They contain toxic elements thus ca physical exercises pollution of excavate water and underground water, drainage of wetlands, air pollutions and loss of diverse brio forms and habitats. Settlement scheme in implemented on fragile lands such swamps, distu rbances the bionomical balance in the area. environmental issues can be crock up by promoting original market-gardening, establishing relevant institutions, formulation of legislation and policies. The Organization for economical Cooperation and Development (OECD) members agreed that reforms should, to the extent possible, simultaneously enable progress to be made on trade liberation and environment. They also agreed to proceed the need to integrate agricultural development with environmental issues. (OECD 1993, p, 24-50) The focus of this flying field is because to examine the risk of inorganic agriculture against organic agriculture on the environment and thereafter formulate alternative strategies to foster sustainability.Environmental issues are diverse and multi-disciplinary in nature since they cut across in all sectors of the economy and cultures. Unsustainable agriculture and increase in communitys in the area modifies environmental issues. Population increase exe rts high pressure on the economic kneades to stretch, in most cases beyond the natural sustainable limit, to accommodate the excess pack (Sandler, Todd. 1997, p, 34-73) In response, the world has embarked on intensified adoption to scientific concept and attainment in technological development to improve production.Organic fashion of production are therefore considered redundant and barbaric in respect of inorganic agriculture. Unsustainable means of production, because, have widened and come on to widen environmental planetary challenges that threaten to cripple and suffocate the worlds economy. Studies have shown that increase use of chemical, such as pesticides and fertilizers for production in farming activities perpetuates the environmental global challenges. This puts the future livelihood for mankind at a back up and uncertain. It is therefore important to examine environmental challenges attached to intensive use of chemical for agricultural production and thereafte r provide an alternative strategy to enhance sustainability. (Dutch Committee, 1994, p, 30-50) Intensified use of chemical for production is largely attributed to agricultural and industrial revolution. Population has also influenced the need to use chemicals to increase feed production to meet the ever growing world ingest for food. Initially, the above means of agricultural production were common in Europe and Asian continent.Abject poverty in the world has created great desire and demand for technological innovation to increase food production. Globalization and scientific advancement has therefore provided a theme to the world food demand problem. However, the solution comes with a bundle of side effects. Technological and scientific information transfer, particularly, to African countries, where poverty is obsolete and unsustainable (Andersons, L. and Bruce, Yundle, 2001, p, 50-200) Over the last three decades there has been an increase global use of chemicals for agricultu ral production. tralatitiously, production was based on organic means thus less environmental concerns. Merchandised agriculture has raised the normal concern over the nature of the problems that arises from agricultural production. These problems are diverse and in all attributed to environmental pollution caused by intensified use of pesticide and fertilizers. (Uri, Noel, 1999, p, 23-123) The problems are aggravated by improper management of agricultural chemicals thereby causing ripe environmental issues. These pose a great problem to the survival and public assistance of humanity, particularly those living in developing world. This is because fertilizers and pesticides are agent of pollution to water bodies, food sources, land, air and vegetation. The development of agriculture production finished specialization and intensification of land use in recent decades has given rise to a wide range of environmental effects, both within the agricultural industry itself and increasi ngly, externally to it. The recognition and understanding of these consequences of modern high engineering science agriculture developed in the 1970s and during the 1980s progress was made in addressing these impacts. Some problems still remain however and pass on be of increasing importance. (OCED, p, 177) The use of chemicals for agricultural production therefore will continue to compromise the environmental sustainability. The World Health Organization estimates that nearly a quarter of the diseases facing mankind today occur due to elongated exposure to environmental pollution. Most of these environmental related diseases are however, not easily detected and may be acquired during childhood and manifest later in adulthood. The indiscriminate and excessive use of agrochemicals for crop protection represents by far the greatest threat to human wellness, to the divisortic stock of the population and to sustain agriculture and environment. At a United Nations seminar in capital of Kenya Kenya in 1984, it was reported that almost 370,000 people suffer from pesticide toxic condition and about 10,000annually die due to insobriety. Recently, the World Health Organization estimated 500,000 fatalities due to pesticide poisoning in developing world. This WHOs report further claims that another 400,000 cases of poisoning were due to pesticide handling and usage. (Mervyns, p, 12)From the quotation above, it is clear that the impacts of agrochemical increases with time and magnitude. This kind of skip is unsustainable and therefore threatens the future of humanity. The impact of pesticide and fertilizer on human health is crucial and therefore should never be under-estimated. The traces of these chemical causes inhalation problems. assembling of the elements in the luggage compartment system affects the free circulation of blood in the body. Biodiversity forms a basis upon which the worlds beauty, emotional fulfillment and aesthetic apostrophize are based. Agr iculture spices up the aesthetic-array of the world. It also creates artificial habitats that shelter migrant organisms such as birds, insects and animals. It therefore follows that agricultural production is a gene bank for scientific development. Intensive use of pesticides and fertilizers puts the existence of nature in it natural form at stake. This is because chemicals kill organisms that perpetuate natural saturation processes thereby clogging the natural form of nature stabilization. Chemical enhances the process of mutation. This leads to evolution of hybridized species of pests which are resistant to natural mean of pest gibe and at times even resistant to pesticides.Loss of biodiversity as a result of chemical use in agricultural production is therefore eminent. It has been reported that, The first sub lethal effect of a pesticide on a bird was probably the eggshell film editing phenomena first set forth by Ratcliff. DDE, the stable metabolite of DDE is reported to be t he cause of eggshell thinning and consequent decline in the breeding success of birds of prey. (Mervyns, p, 78) Equity is a controversial aspect of resource distribution in the world. The bed cover betwixt the rich and the poor is quite disheartening. Economic processes and advancement also die towards widening the gap.Commercialization of agriculture with intensive use of chemicals, poses environmental degradation. This consequently deprives the land of its ability to naturally produce food thereby morose its production yield. The poor depend totally on the environment for their livelihood. inorganic agriculture is a worlds strategy to check the gap between the poor and the rich. It is widely believe that many people in the world sleep without food for many days. Increased food production, will therefore help to resolve one of the greatest challenges that is threatening to snag the earth a part. However, inorganic farming has failed to bridge the gap between the poor and the ri ch. The skill of using chemicals to increase food production is questionable. Traditional means of production were more manual, labor intensive and time overwhelming with minimum negative impacts to the environment. Current means of agricultural production are merchandized and more efficient as compared with the traditional methods. However, with regard to the environmental challenges, the efficiency of inorganic production to address the abject poverty in the world is low.Ecology is defined as the domestic site of organism, knowledge and the content of the relation of the surrounding world. It is a self sustaining environment. Ecology is always refined to changes. Introduction of foreign substances such as traces of pesticides and fertilizer modify the ecological characteristic and identity. Nutrients like nitrate and phosphate are normally wash down into water bodies when it rains. This initiates the process of eutrophication. Eutrophication is a process whereby the water expe riences enrichment with nutrients of nitrate and phosphate.Consequently water lilies, phytoplasm and algae blooms to experience luxuriant growth. This phenomenon has negative impacts on the functions of the water body. In the first place, Algae bloom forms a green like layer on top of the water thereby hindering penetration of light to the water body. Due to high accumulation of substance in the water, decaying process increases. This causes a biological oxygen demand which leads to asphyxiation of aquatic lives in the water body. Bad smell arises from the water body as a result of decaying processes. The value of water for domestic use therefore reduces.
Bilingual Education Essay
articulateness is a very important part in many fields of work such as in schools, public and private sectors. It is requirement in the application of proper communion methods. This means, it is applied both in oral and written communications methods. suaveness refers to both breeding and spoken language. The two are often confused with whizz a nonher. class period suavity is the tycoon to read the texts with greater accuracy and at a high speed, while the proficiency in a language which is often foreign one is referred to as language fluency. (Cummins, 1989)In this feature essay, I am tackling the variation fluency which can be delimitate as the ability to read with speed, accuracy and proper panorama. Fluency is not an easy task and close to clawren and scholarly persons in higher class who live with not learnt to read with fluency finds it very difficult in their learning. This is because, wish of fluency hinder the understanding and meaning of sentences in a te xt. This leads to hapless understanding of the whole text at the end of their reading. Fluent reading makes the proofreaders to utilize less energy in their reading. This enables them to learn proper expression of the meanings in the texts. Whether a child is reading a clamorously or in silent mood, he/ she reads in phrases and adds intonation which are appropriate. Thus there reading becomes smooth and full of expressions. (Cummins, 1989) Contrary to fluent readers, non- fluent reader make their reading to sound choppy and awkward. In addition, they make a lot of mistakes by either omitting some of the words. This makes many sentences to lack meaning, and in general sense the whole to text remains to be a mess to them. Their decoding skills are hindered and hence they read laboriously. In raise to procure fluency, three or more components essential be incorporate in reading. If the three components are put in practices, then fluency is achieved without any objections. First a nd fore closely is the component of accuracy. This is also known as automaticity. However, there is a slight difference between the two terms. Automaticity applies to the fast, perfunctory word recognition that comes with a great deal of reading practice. It refers to the childs or any other persons ability to read words in a text without missing its pronunciations. few of the children find it very difficult to read because they cannot make the pronunciations of some words. This is do as difficult as the child is weak in combination syllables of a word. So, lack of phonemic awareness act as a barriers to fluency. This necessitates the child to be having a familiarity of word pronunciation. He can do so by reading some of the text especi on the wholey the poetic kind of writing or margin calls. The third component is prosody. This one of the most ignored factor which most student lacks. They do not occupation nor do they want to learn more about it.It is much interested with the inclusion of stress, intonation and pauses. This can be referred to as reading feelings. They take a shit good impression to the reader as well as to the audience. Reading without this component makes it very hard for the audience to depict the mood of the kernel being passed over through with(predicate) the text. (Cummins, 1989) It is therefore very necessary to have fluency in reading. This is developed gradually over time through practice. It first involves students reading in slow phase which is a morsel laboured work. When students become fluent readers, they bridge word recognition and comprehension. Fluency therefore acts as bridge between the two. This means that fluency on its own does not ensure comprehension. However, it enhances the comprehension. Comprehension is very hard to achieve without fluency. The moment the non-fluent readers stop to decode and figure out unknown words, it is most likely the meaning of the already read parts get stop and the process of lear ning become laborious. When students are acquitted with fluency, they attain a better position in their study work. They pull together all their efforts and concentrate them on analyzing, interpreting and drawing of conclusions from the texts they are reading. Further more, fluency eliminates the concentrations on decoding the words thus the students keep on cogitate their attention on what the text means. They are able to make the connections mange the ideas in the text and their background knowledge. Thus the fluent readers recognize the words and secure at the same time. This saves time of reading and interpretation giving student free time for leisure and other activities.Considering the fact that reading volumes improver with the transition from lower classes to the upper higher levels of education, it is very crucial for the teachers to encourage the students at the very beginning of schooling to gain fluency in their reading. Teachers are thus a major determinant for child s fluency reading. Teachers are the first people who can recognize the problems of reading dis localises with the children. They therefore need to take immediate action in order to improve the reading fluency of the child. Teachers can therefore do some(prenominal) things. This includes reading a text loudly while the child comprehends to him. He may also device other methods such as presenting loud tape messages to students. These two ways may help the child to listen to the words as they are pronounced, the prosody component is well perceive and the other expressions are still well presented in this. The teacher must give much of the practice work to the student through having song and reciting poetic writing with the child. (Cummins, 1989) Reference Cummins, J. Impact of Project Investments on Firm Value Essay
broadly speaking in all decisions concerning investments in capital protrudes, the counselling selects only those assures that be expected to contribute a positive net present value. set ahead the project should be capable of providing an internal rate of re pass on which should be greater than the hurdle rate. (Ross et al 2005) These criteria for the selection of capital projects be considered of import from the perspective of the evaluation of the capital projects. However the phenomenon of value maximization of the devoted is not being focused by these evaluation methods. It may be noted that a project go out be considered financially workable only when it satisfies the condition of meeting the evaluation criteria and should also be in a position to provide super-normal returns on the investments to add value to the occupation proposing the investment. Several avenues can be cited which could be used by the project to result in super normal profits to the blotto which r esults in the enhancement in the value of the firm.To cite a few avenues by ensuring better economies of scale, by providing other cost advantages, by enabling the firm to offer better quality products that are distinct in the market, by improving production efficiency, by providing better access to distribution communicate and by ensuring increased brand recognition the late project investments would be able to add value to the firm.Project Investment and Stock evaluationThe potential for growth and improvement in sales of the bon ton will significantly be dazeed by the proposed expansion of the comp some(prenominal) into new markets and new product lines and this will improve the position of the company in terms of profitability and return on equity. As a born(p) consequence the expansion by achieving the projected financial expectations will impact the value of the companys stock. The market value of the stock is potential to go up once the expansion pays off the results by elan of increased profits.Further the internal valuation of the shares will also catch increased or decreased depending on the financial decision for sourcing the spare funds required for investing in the capital projects. Based on the changes in the leverage the book value of the shares will be affected. When the company decides to finance the expansion through issue of new common stocks the equity will get diluted to the extent of the stocks issued for public subscription. This in turn will have its impact on the free cash race to the equity, since there will be increase in the number of shares and indeed the valuation of shares will get impacted. (Discussion Issues and Derivations) Strategic Considerations Normally the execution of any project investment decisions can be influenced by the governmental regulations on which the management does not have any control. But there are certain other factors, the course of which can be altered by taking some strategic decisions by t he management.By selecting those projects which offer the surmount return on investment through better economies of scale the management can strategically increase the returns and value of the firm. Goup Influence on Self
Group decide on egotism from a Classical and Contemporary View Elizabeth H. Dixon PSYCH/555 September 3, 2011 Kelly Topp, Ph. D. Group make on Self from a Classical and Contemporary View homo behaviour is often strongly affected by otherwise throng and collectionings of muckle as well as the conventions to which a person may belong. Groups usually throw established norms that tell its members how they argon expected brook as members of the separate.According to Baron, Branscombe, and Byrne(2009), Perhaps much to a greater extent(prenominal) surprising is the f knead that often, we atomic number 18 strongly affected by the mere presence of others, even if we be non part of a ruleal group (Chapter 11, Effects of the nominal head of Others, para. 1). Individuals can as well as withdraw from groups if they believe that the group is no lasting providing their needs or has miscellanyd to a time period where the group no long reflects their desires, beliefs, need s, or determine. Both of the above-menti hotshotd styles of fundamental interactions can greatly affect an psyche and how he or she may come to confiness indoors their societal function of self. These norms and expectations atomic number 18 a part of group charm and what is known as shape and faithfulness. The subject of this paper allow for compare and contrast the c one timepts of abidance and obedience, analyze a unmixed and contemporary study concerning the effect of group make for on the self, and analyze private and societal decides that lead to deflexion from dominant group norms. A Comparison and Contrast of the Concept of concurrence and Obedience Group submit is a result of changes that result from indirect or direct interaction with groups of people.According to Fiske (2010), Social influence broadly encompasses both changes in beliefs, attitudes, or behavior that result from interpersonal interaction (Social set Doing What Others Do and Say, Conceptua l Definitions, para. 1). As such, the main influence of social influence is that of norms and aims in interactive settings. Key concepts aid in describing and analyzing the concept of social influence. For the purpose of the subject of this paper, uniformity and obedience are twain of the concepts that will be discussed. Conformity and obedience are equivalent in setting and meaning however, to each one affects an ndividual contrastively and has distinct differences when one is to define each concept. Conformity When one defines conformity, he or she must not impede to note that conformity equals in diverse types concerning individuals who are driveing to make full their needs, wants, and desires. Conformity is a form of social influence in which individuals change their attitudes and/or behavior to adhere to a group or social norm (Shiraev & Levy, 2010, Social Interaction, Conformity, para. 1). Conformity is taught at very early ages. Parents prat expectations of behav ior on children as early as pre-kindergarten years. As children begin to interact with other groups of people, they continue to learn that conformity is the baseline of norms and is the unwritten rules of behavior. sometimes conformity hap create verballys as a motive to gain rewards or debar forms of punishment. This form of behavior is known as residency, and tends to bring hope to individuals in need. For example, if people are despe set up because of a lack of a need, or poverty, they may comply because of what may seem to be a persuade solution to their problems. Another reason that conformity exist is to escape sanctions administered by a group of people. For example, a person who does not conform to the expectations and rules of a group may receive sanctions, such as fines, against him or her and becomes at insecurity of ostracism from the group. Along the line of sanctioning, another reason that a person might conform is to remain in the good graces of others by living up to the expectations of others. In this case it is usually accredited that the others give a majority of people. For example, people visit other countries that save antithetic ethnical norms, such as a woman wearing a scarf to cover her face.As a way to show respect for the culture, a woman may conform to the norms while a visitor at heart that particular country. Finally, a person may practice conformity because he or she is forced to comply. For an example, if a store is in the process of a burglary, the cashier and store clerk may do whatever the robber tell them to do. Both workers could also be compliant because they may be in a situation in which they are held at dot and does not want to put themselves at a higher risk of creation hurt or killed. Obedience People tend to try to interchange to use of the term conformity and obedience.Although obedience is very quasi(prenominal) to conformity, the main difference between the two concepts is the source of the influence , or part upon each term. Conformity has to a greater extent to do with social expectations inwardly a group or society, whereas obedience has more to do with influence from consent given by others or contours of pronouncement. Obedience is a form of conformity when a person simply follows orders given by others. Obedience to warrant is defined as following orders given by an pronouncement estimate (Shiraev & Levy, 2010, Social Interaction, Following Orders, para. 1).When obedience is shown toward another person or group of people, there is a belief that the authority figure has the right to beg actions, give orders, or issue requests. When a daycare worker wants compliance from the children in the daycare, obedience is the term used to describe what the worker wants from the children. When a police officer says to an individual stop and put your hands up obedience is about a demand of action from a figure of authority. One way to define the difference of obedience and con formity is by noting that obedience is the result of a deliberate or active form of social influence (Shiraev & Levy, 2010).In other words, conformity involves more personal choices than obedience, which involves an authority figure telling an individual or others how to behave in a particular way. Studies and research confirm that the concepts of conformity and obedience are similar in that each concept is driven by social interaction and social influences that greatly affect the concept of self. A Classical vignette Concerning the Effect of Group Influence on the Self A historically well-known study of the self and the effect of group influence was that of an tribulation conducted by a 1950s psychologist named Solomon Asch.Asch hypothesized that individual judgment is influenced by norms. Asch was interested in the extent that a person may follow or rebel against group expectations and norms. In Aschs auditions, a group of students were informed that they were to infix in a vision test. One subject was not told that the other participants were assistants of the experimenter ( participators). In the beginning of the experiment, the confederates were answering questions correctly, but eventually began to answer the questions monstrously. The test subject knowingly had the correct answers but eventually began to answer the questions ill-timedly. It became diaphanous that the individual was trying to conform to the participants who answered the question incorrectly. Findings of the Classical Study near 75 % of the participants in these experiments went along with the other participants of the group at least(prenominal) once. The results indicated, along with the trial experiments, conformity approximately one-third of the time. Asch also effect that the size of the opposing participants affected conformity as well.If the opposing is the majority, careless(predicate) of the number in the group, subjects conform just as easily as they would if the grou p is much larger in number. The experiments also showed the effect of group number and conformity. In the experiment when there was a presence of tether or more confederates, the train of conformity was more significant and provable than the presence of one or two confederates. When more confederates was given the incorrect answer, while one confederate gave the correct answer, the level of conformity was dramatically lowered to between 5 to 10 %.Later studies have also back up this finding suggesting that social support is a valuable tool in decreasing or combating conformity (Morris & Miller, 1975). Limitations or Shortcomings with the Study The Asch experiments was criticized and believed to have limitations because critics of the experiment believed that participants had specific reasons in choosing to conform. According to some critics, the individuals may not have had a desire to conform to the group and that conformity could have occurred because of motivation to avoid an y conflict.Critics also believed that the lab experiments may not have been an accurate reflection of the situations of the real-world. A Contemporary Study Concerning the Effect of the Influence of Obedience on the Self The January 2009 issue of American Psychologist discusses a more contemporary, overbold study that replicated Milgrams classic obedience experiment (Schaefer, 2011). In Milgrams 1960 experiment, participants were asked to confer electrical shocks to a person who was known as the learner whenever an incorrect answer was given. Realistically, the learner was pretending to be shocked, as was a confederate in the experiment. The experiment was to prove and determine the willingness of people to obey the commands of a figure of authority. Despite that the learner seemed to be in serious distress, 65% of participants displayed a willingness to deliver the maximum level of shocks to the learner. Recently, a psychology professor at Santa Clara University, by the name of Jerry Burger, performed an experiment that replicated Milgrams famous study (Schafer, 2011). below the very(prenominal) hypothesis of Milgrams experiment, using modifications and safeguards to protect participants welfare, Burger repeated areas of the Milgrams experiment with college undergraduates.Burgers maximum shock level was 150-volts instead of the maestro 450-volts, and also participants were carefully screened to find whether or not the participants might pose negative reactions to the experiment. Burger also ensured done a screening process that students did not have knowledge of Milgrams study. Findings of the Contemporary Study The results of the replication of the experiments showed astonishingly and startlingly similarities to Milgrams master copy 1960 experiment. The participants, just as in the superior experience, showed a high level of willingness to shock the learner. The most comparable point in the two studies heared a full obedience measured rate of 70 % , not significantly high, compared to the rate of 82. 5 % measured more than 40 years ago. The results of Burgers experiment were high enough to reveal that participants obeyed at the same rate as in Milgrams original study. Limitations or Shortcomings with the Study Critics of Burgers experiment believe there are too many differences and lack of connections between his study and the earlier studies of obedience research to allow precise and useful comparisons in spite of appearance the study. The extreme differences in the maximum voltage are an example of what the critics view as conceptually unacceptable. However, supporters indicate that it is true that direct comparisons cannot be make when there is a significant difference between the 150-volt maximum of Burgers research and Milgrams 450-volt maximum however, Burgers procedures can be used to further the geographic expedition of some of the situational variables studied by Milgram, along with other possible redundant variabl es. This further exploration of variables would assist in explanations when analyzing contemporary examples of group influence on the self.A Contemporary Example of the Effect That Group Influence Has on the Self A contemporary example of the effect that group influence has on the self is an approach that reminds this author of a friend that she once had in college. This friend was a freshman that had never been away from menage or her parents, and for the first time ever, was making decision about her manner on her own. This friend, who will be referred to as Angela was bright and ambitious. Angela was so vehement to fit in that she was willing to be a friend to anyone.Although Angela came from a cryptic family, she was not the type of person who would look down on others or prejudge others. Angela became friends with a girl that she met in one of her classes. Initially, the newfound friend seemed to bid Angela, and both of them uniformd some of the same things. The new frie nd who will be referred to as Jeannie was a sophomore, and also from a rich background and quite preppy. Jeannie dressed a certain way, and carried herself a certain way, which was one of the true opposites between her and Angela. As time went by, including the school summer break, Jeannie and Angela became the best of friends. Upon their return to school, Jeannie introduced Angela to the girls in her sorority. Angela thought that it was a privilege that this fully grown sorority seemed to have an interest in her. Angela immediately took to the group of young ladies. eventually she pledged the sorority and became a member. During this time, this writer was still a friend of Angela however, this writer noticed that Angela really did change.Angela altered her behavior and attitude to that of the group members. Angela bought dear(predicate) clothing and gadgets just so that she could be just like everyone in her group. Angela started to look down on other students by openly referrin g to them as wanna-bes and other terms. Angela would be disrespectful toward members of the other sororities and always seemed to act as if she were better than everyone else. Angela acted as if she had very much power and authority, and within a years time, had conformed totally to the behaviors of her sorors.Angela had other friends, just like this writer, but eventually lost their friendship because of her snooty ways. Angelas transubstantiation and the Conformity Theory This writers story is an example of the conformity theory in psychology. When Angela altered her behaviors and attitudes to that of the sorority members, she displayed one of the key aspects of the conformity theory known as the normative social influence. Angela openly referred to other people as wanna-bes and began to look down on others, as she go along to follow the aspects of normative social influence. When normative social influence is exhibited, the influence of others leads one to conform to be accepte d and liked by members within the group. The social impact theory is also displayed in this story because Angela became physiologically closer to the members within the sorority. According to the social impact theory the more important the group is, the closer a persons physical distance becomes to that group. Angela found acceptance of the groups mentality as her behaviors appeared to come naturally. Referent power was another factor in Angelas transformation.Even though this sorority was not the most likeable, the group was perceived as rich girls from powerful and prominent backgrounds. Eventually Angela became just like the other members of her sorority and therefore, made other friends an outcast in her manner. A long time after becoming a member of the sorority, Angela realized how her actions were and how unbecoming it caused her to be. After realizing the true friends she had were out of her life, and cared to have nothing to do with her, she chose to alter from her soror ity and became an inactive side within her sorority. The Individual and Societal Influences that Lead To difference Sociologists, define the term degenerate as exhibiting behavior that violates the standards of conduct or expectations of a group or society (Schaefer, 2011, Chapter 7, Deviance and Social Control, What Is Deviance, para. 1). In the United States, the behaviors of drug users, alcoholics, and mentally ill people are examples of what society views as deviant behaviors. However, there are positive deviations that exist as well. Some people turn from the norm to become more of an individual, and different because they may feel like standing up for what they believe versus that of belonging to a group that may seem opposite of the persons beliefs. If one were to ask one of these people, how they became who they are, there is a strong likelihood that both individual and societal influences lead that person to these deviant behaviors. Individual Influences and Deviance Ind ividual influences that agitate deviance may stem from other factors that play a role in how individuals become defiant and deviant. When it is concerning society being the group in question, researchers agree that the offsprings actions stem from the individual influences that start from within the home. Within the family, if there is divorce, abuse, and deviant parental behaviors, there becomes a splice to delinquency as juveniles and deviance as adults. Genetics and individual abnormalities also have been proven as reasons for deviance toward societal and group norms. It is largely acceptable practice to believe that genetic influences are significant in producing deviant behavior(s) in society (Carson, Butcher, & Mineka, 1996).Some people who deviate are not mentally ill or unhealthy, but have higher levels of self-actualization. Self-Actualization is the highest level of the hierarchy, the level represents the need to be what one potentially is (Goodman, 1968, p. 2). It is al so more often than not accepted practice to believe that societal influences cause people to deviate from group norms and expectations. Societal Influences and Deviance Expectations such as cultural norms and value could cause a person to deviate from within a group.A deviant behavior clarifies moral boundaries, facilitates changes in society, encourages social unity, and affirms, as mentioned earlier, cultural norms and values (Carson, Butcher, & Mineka, 1996). Deviance is viewed by sociologists as a behavior engaged in a person by having common sociocultural backgrounds or the same experiences within a culture. In other words, deviant and nondeviant behavior is learn in the same way in that they both are behaviors that are a learned from others who engage in and encourage violation of cultural norms and values.Another form of a more common societal influence is that of chum pressure. Research has proven that deviant behavior is influenced by the presence or absence of a peer gr oup. Example of Individual and Societal Influences and Deviance An example individual influence of deviant behavior is about the life of a son who became deviant because of behaviors that stemmed from within the home. This boys deviant mother practiced ineffective parenting and began teaching her son at the early age of five, to be criminally deviant. Kimes taught Kenny, the younger of two sons, to steal, reach, and practice scams.Fortunately, Kennys oldest brother did not follow in his mothers footsteps. Kenny was graduated from high school and enrolled into college. It was in 1998 that Kenny dropped out of college to begin with his mother, a nationwide journey that initially seemed to have no particular purpose. The two made huge purchases using bad checks and fake identifications and were scamming even more to have money. The two of them murdered the victims of their biggest scams, and in July 1998, landed in rising York City, where they murdered Irene Silverman.Mrs. Silverman would be their last victim, after the two of them were infiltrated by the FBI, through a friend who sold Mrs. Kimes the illegal gun that was used to murder Irene Silverman. Sante and Kenny were tried in the spring of 2000 and found guilty of 58 different crimes (Sante) and 60 for Kenny. Sante received a sentence of 120 years and Kenny was sentenced to cxxv years. A few months later, during an interview by Court TV reporter, maria Zone, Kenny attempted to escape by pressing a ballpoint pen into Ms.Zones throat and holding her hostage for three hours before being subdued by authorities. Conclusion Many styles of group interaction exist among people. The subject of this paper had discussed the styles of conformity and obedience. There are both classical and contemporary studies that explain the importance of these styles when it concerns the concept of self and group influence. Finally, the word of this paper was to analyze individual and societal influences that lead to deviant beha vior and deviance from the dominant group norms. In conclusion, it is safe to state that groups or authority figures have powerful influence on an individual however, although this may be a fact, there are still individuals who become nonconforming because individual influences and social influences will deviate from society and group expectations and norms. Challenges in the Business Environment Essay
There has been no change to orchard apple tree grave of Conduct policy since 2014 when apple started pickings previous analyse scores into consideration and conduct detailed jeopardy assessments with suppliers who had not been audited in the past before awarding the new business. In 2014, we reassessmented 459 suppliers, and f effectored their responsibility performance into our decisions. This engagement has entirelyowed orchard apple tree to address over 700 findings relate to repel standards, worker safety, permits, environmental hazards, and chemical management before production began (orchard apple tree 2014 provider Code of Conduct). apple has made significant progress, gaps still exist, and there is more work to do. orchard apple tree bangs that workers atomic number 18 counting on them and they ordain not stop until every person in their bestow concatenation is treated with the respect and arrogance they deserve (Apple Supplier Responsibility 2015 build R eport). Apple believes that it is not enough to just set gamey standards they moldiness work every day to sham real theyre upheld. Apple Supplier Code of Conduct is among the toughest in the industry. To track on the job(p) conditions at suppliers facilities, we conduct regular, in-person audits deep into the supply image. Audits remain essential to Apple work, but theyre only the beginning. Apple reports monthly on working hours for over one one million million workers with hopes that their openness will inspire other companies. But more important, Apple believe the feedback that transparency invites recognises us rase better (Apple Supplier Responsibility 2015 Progress Report). Apples suppliers are required to provide safe working conditions, treat workers with dignity and respect, act sanely and ethically, and use environmentally responsible practices wherever they make products or perform run for Apple. Apple requires its suppliers to operate in accordance with the pr inciples in this Apple Supplier Code ofConduct (Code) and in abundant form with all applicable laws and regulations. This Code goes beyond mere compliance with the law by drawing upon internationally recognized standards to advance brotherly and environmental responsibility. This Code outlines Apples expectations for Supplier conduct regarding labor and tender-hearted rights, health and safety, environmental protection, ethics, and management practices. Apple assesses its suppliers compliance with this Code, and every violations of this Code may jeopardize the suppliers business blood with Apple, up to and including termination. This Code applies to Apple suppliers and their subsidiaries, affiliates, and subcontractors ( separately a Supplier) providing goods or services to Apple, or for use in or with Apple products (Apple 2014 Supplier Code of Conduct). To show that Apple believes that it is not enough to just set high standards and that they must work every day to make sure theyre upheld. In 2014, over 2.3 million workers were trained on Apples Code and their rights. Apple invested millions of dollars to expand our Supplier Employee Education and Development (SEED) political program since it began.SEED now totals 48 classrooms in 23 facilities equipped with iMac computers, iPad devices, information software, video conferencing systems, and more. To make sure the standards were upheld Apple performed 633 audits covering over 1.6 million workers in 2014. Apple also audited suppliers in 19 countries and calls were made to 30,000 workers to make sure their rights were being upheld (Apple 2014 Supplier Code of Conduct). Apple Suppliers Understanding of Their Standards, Responsibilities, and alliance Relationship Apple is proud of the strong relationships they have built with their suppliers, numerous of whom have been working with them for years. Apple periodically reviews their relationships and adds new suppliers as needed. Apple requires each of its suppliers to meet the highest standards for all goods and services. Our requirements include a commitment to pixilated quality assurance. In addition, suppliers must be committed, as we are, to ensuring the highest standards of social responsibility. The high-minded suppliers are those who understand our culture and expectations. We value suppliers who take the time to scan about and understand our business and who look for ways to add value. These suppliers know the importance of making and meeting commitments and delivering the highest quality goods and services (Apple Apple and Procurement). Apple business environment iscompetitive and fast-paced. Apple suppliers must understand this high-octane and be agile and flexible in responding to changing business conditions. all(prenominal) over the world, people are building Apple products and Apple has a responsibility to make sure that each person is treated with dignity and respect. Its a massive challenge where Apple work is n ever done, but each year they implement meaningful, lasting changes across their supply chain. Because of this around the globe, Apple employees are united in bringing equality, human rights, and respect for the environment to the deepest layers of their supply chain.Apple goes deep into their supply chain to enforce their social and environmental standards by empowering workers through education, demanding that suppliers treat workers fairly and ethically at all times, having safe and healthy facilities, and hold their products and processes to the highest environmental standards (Apple Supplier Responsibility 2015 Progress Report). Apple believes that in order to make impactful changes across their supply chain, its important to understand premierehand whats happening inside their suppliers facilities. Thats why they dont evidently employ and review audits from behind a desk in Cupertino. Instead, they directly infer how their supplier facilities are doing by regularly visitin g and partnering with their suppliers around the world, so when they discover a problem, they can work together to get it inflexible (Apple Accountability). To make sure the standards are understood and upheld Apple performed 633 audits covering over 1.6 million workers. Apple also audited suppliers in 19 countries and calls 30,000 workers to make sure their rights are being upheld.Every audit is led by an Apple auditor and supported by local third-party auditors. These third parties are experts in their fields and all have been trained to use our detailed auditing protocols. During each audit, Apple grade suppliers on more than 100 data points gibe to each category of our Supplier Code of Conduct (Apple Accountability). Apple auditors are highly skilled at identifying when suppliers are covering up information. Apple audits are proven to improve supplier compliance. Each year we review and raise our already strict requirements, and suppliers continue to meet our increasingly s ozzled standards. In 2014, facilities audited two times scored 25 percent higher than those facilities with first-time audits. Facilities audited triple times or more scored 31 percent higher than facilities auditedfor the first time (Apple Accountability). In addition to these regular, prescheduled audits, Apple randomly select facilities to audit unannounced. These strike audits help ensure that our suppliers continue to meet our standards at all times not just during scheduled visits. Apple conducted 40 surprise audits in 2014, where their team visited suppliers on the spot and inspected the facility within hours. after(prenominal) the audit Apple conducts physical inspections, reviews documents, and interviews workers in their native languages, without their managers present. Afterward, workers are precondition a phone number, so they have the opportunity to securely and confidentially provide additional feedback about a facility to our team, including anything they consider to be unethical behavior. Apple encourages workers to report any retaliation to us, and we follow up with all suppliers to address each reported issue (Apple Accountability).
